Leaders in the South Kitsap community gathered Jan. 5 in the administrative offices of the South Kitsap School District to launch a new South Kitsap Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition.
The coalition was created with a “shared vision of a safe and substance-free community to prevent and reduce alcohol and drug use amongst local youth, while creating a healthier and safer community environment for all,” according to a press release.
Coalition partners include the South Kitsap School District, Substance Abuse Prevention Services of the Kitsap County Department of Human Services, the Bremerton and North Kitsap Substance Abuse Prevention Coalitions, and “many other concerned community members.”
The coalition was formed in partnership with a Leadership Kitsap project team.
In addition to educating the community, the coalition will identify and prioritize the most urgent prevention needs, plan and implement evidence-based strategies, leverage local resources, and evaluate the impact of selected programs, the release states. A planning event is planned for this spring.
The public is invited to attend the coalition
