Scammer uses compromised WSP phone to pose as trooper

A scammer somehow gained control of a Washington State Patrol telephone number, then posed as a trooper and accused random people of crimes.

The WSP received 30 complaints from people saying they were called by someone who falsely identified his or her self as a WSP trooper, according to a press release from the WSP.

The impersonator accused the people they called of various violations, including “outstanding warrants, unpaid tickets, and unpaid school taxes,” the release states.

WSP troopers never make those kinds of calls.
